As Scotland comes out of Lockdown, so does Bridgend Farmhouse. Most of our "real life" activities come to a stop over the winter so we did our best with on-line classes in cooking, arts and crafts, singing and nature study and all of these continue. We now have a route map out of Lockdown
[see https://www.bridgendfarmhouse.org.uk/.../emerging-from.... for more details]
NOTE: this is still a work in progress, and subject to change, as we follow the government's Covid guidelines for keeping people safe.
As May ends our community lunches restart in association with Gregarious Chinwags.
We hosted the first of our surplus suppers and international dinners, both in the marquee, and our Sunday ‘drop in’ activity sessions restart on 30th May, booking required.
Continuing are our blocks of ladies’ bike maintenance classes, learn to cycle classes for under 6s, and family bike rides, and a new health walk group has stated with numbers growing well. The VIP club for pre-schoolers with additional needs has returned to the Farmhouse, and Trees and Seas Outdoor Adventures continue to launch their forays into Craigmillar Park from the Farmhouse access point.
In June we will continue with a mixed online and outdoor offerings.
Booking for all activities other than the Bike Workshop is through email to email@example.com, or by texting/ calling 07706674108.
The Bike Workshop continues to be open by appointment for emergency bike repairs and other maintenance. You can book via 07591 882 779 or by emailing ActiveTravel@bridgendfarmhouse.org.uk.
We continue to hold our usual weekly zoom sessions, details below.
Cooking on a Budget, Tuesdays in June from the 1st until 22nd, at 5pm
This time it’s a Scottish seasonal theme Donna McArdle, who will be known to many as the doyen of Edinburgh Junk Food Project.

Foraging workshops: Alan Mitchell and Donna McArdle are teaming up to deliver a satisfying free afternoon. Meeting up at Bridgend Farmhouse, this workshop will give families (children aged 8 +) the chance to explore Craigmillar wood under the supervision of an experienced and qualified forager and gather the ingredients for a delicious outdoor spread! On the return from foraging there will be a cookery class to show what can be done with foraged ingredients.
Sessions are on 6th July, and 20th July, all 1pm-6pm.
Capacity is limited so please book early via firstname.lastname@example.org or 07706674108
The workshops will be broadly similar so please only book 1 session.
The new Walking Group meets for short (about 1 hour), local walks on Wednesday mornings from 10am, starting at the Farmhouse, led by trained Health Walk leaders. Booking is currently required by the email/ number to allow us to stick to group size limits and pick up relevant details from participants.
Additionally we have various bike related activities on offer, all on Fridays. Again, book any of these by contacting email@example.com or texting or calling 07706674108. You can also log interest in future sessions, and we will contact you first, once dates are set, [likely to be either during the holidays, or after the schools go back].
The Family Bike Rides comprise Leanne guiding you on mostly traffic free paths for around 2 hours with lots of breaks. Rides are all around 8 miles and mostly flat so all levels of experience can join though children need to be able to ride a bike. Rides leave from Bridgend Farmhouse with the next and last in the current block being at 2pm on 11th June. Bikes and helmets can be borrowed free of charge. Places are limited to 8.
