3-4 - Workshops:
- Practical Workshop [Garden], Edible Weeds & Perennial Veg - Nenya Milne: Meet some easy-care perennial vegetables that wouldn't look out of place in a flower border and are perfect for filling the 'hungry gap' in spring, and - even better - some commonest edible weeds that most green spaces offer in abundance. With a few tasters and recipes to try for yourself, and some perennial plants to take home from as little as £1/pot, you'll be set for a healthy and nutritious start to your spring
- Scottish Farmland Trust [Exhibition Room] - Roz Corbett: “Land ownership in Scotland is highly concentrated, and there is a long history of campaigning to increase access to land for people and communities. The Scottish Farm Land Trust was set up in 2016 focusing particularly on access to agricultural land. SFLT aims to increase access to land for people who want to start agroecological farm businesses. Accessing land in Scotland for this type of farming is very difficult. Farmland can be very expensive to buy, and sold in large parcels. There’s high competition with existing farmers who are looking to increase the size of their farms. There are also relatively few agricultural leases available, especially longer-term leases. This workshop will focus on how access to land for farming is an important topic for the Good Food Nation Bill. We’ll discuss different experiences of accessing land, and explore different strategies that have been used and could be used to help more new farmers start agroecological farms”
- Fork in the Road [Workshop Space] - Lisa: Ingredients for a Good Food Nation -What do you think are key ingredients for a good food nation? What should the government do or what do you personally need to make good food a part of your daily life? What does good food mean to you? You can share your contributions in the form of recipes, memories, stories, poems or whichever other way you want.
- Good Food Nation Bill [Cafe] - Stephanie: Have your views heard! The Scottish Government are proposing a new law on food– a Good Food Nation Bill. They have some good ideas, but they don't think they go far enough - the new law will need to be more ambitious to make a real difference. The Scottish Food Coalition (SFC) are a civil society coalition working for food justice, the SFC wants to transform our food system in Scotland so that it contributes to everyone's health and wellbeing, values the work to put food on our plate, supports high animal welfare, and sustains our wildlife, natural resources and environment for generations to come. We're are campaigning for a fairer, healthier and more sustainable food system - if you want the same, come and join us!
