BIG's community share issue, coming 2018....
After much consultation with members, local residents, and others further afield, we became aware of considerable interest from people wishing to invest directly in the project. To realise this we are currently working with Community Share Scotland and the Plunkett Foundation to finalise the details, with the aim to launch it in Spring 2017.
As part of this we have now established a partner organisation called Bridgend Farmhouse Community Workshops Ltd. This will be a community benefit society, owned and run by its shareholders, which can be anyone, for the benefit of Bridgend Farmhouse and the wider community.
The purposes of this organisation are:
How the Community Shareholder scheme will work
The intention is to not only raise investment directly from and for our community, but most importantly engaging people on multiple levels; as member-shareholders, volunteers, users and Directors.
We really hope you will show your support for the project and invest in this local project, something that together we can own, share and shape.
If you are at all interested, please sign up to express this interest using the form at the bottom of this page.
Additionally we are currently looking for people and organisations interested in suggesting proposals for best use of the four workshops, in line with the core functions outlined above. If you are interested in this or have any ideas, please contact us at: [email protected]
- To run the four community workshops that will be built on site and help decide their make-up. Current suggestions we have are: DIY workshop; Arts & Crafts Workshop; Bike workshop; and an Outdoor Education Material Library.
- Create the opportunity to run social enterprise and income-generating activities and products that can raise money to be invested back into the workshops, the farmhouse or the BIG project in general.
How the Community Shareholder scheme will work
- To become a shareholder you will have to purchase at least one share.
- Shares cost a minimum of £20 and you can invest in anything up to 1000 shares.
- As a members co-operative model, all shareholders will be members who have an equal say over the democratic running of the organisation. Members can vote to elect a board of representatives, and can take part in important decisions at the AGM and any meetings they attend. Shares purchased are investments in the project, and after a period of time (at least 3 years) these shares are withdrawal at the discretion of the board.
- The launch will involve the release of a Share Issue document which will include full details of the workshops, the business plan, the details of shares, membership, investment, and any other questions answered.
