Edinburgh City Council Vote to transfer farmhouse once Lottery funding secured.

Picture
Everyone....we did it!!

Thanks to the handwork, support and dedication of so many people, last Thursday the City of Edinburgh Council agreed to transfer Bridgend Farmhouse to Bridgend Inspiring Growth at nil cost, dependent on us receiving Lottery Funding.

It has been a long and hard process but so fantastic to see this now in place, and a testament that the council have shown support in ensuring the future of the farmhouse as a community asset and giving us the greatest chance of success with Lottery funding.

A big thanks to everyone for all you've done to get us to this point, it's amazing news!

We now just have to wait and hope we will be successful with our Big Lottery funding bid to ensure the whole renovation project goes ahead. We will of course let you know as soon as we hear in the next few weeks.

In the meantime, the Sunday open drop-in (11-3pm) continues on every Sunday, so feel free to pop by any week to the farmhouse and join in.

Also our next BIG meeting is on Monday 5th October at 5.30pm at the farmhouse. If you're interested in coming please let us know, and if you are not yet a member of BIG and would like to be then do get in contact.

Congratulations everyone!

The BIG Committee

help support our project and keep the fantastic sunday drop in running

Anna, who is the secretary for Bridgend Inspiring Growth, and has been involved since the beginnings more than five years ago, has decided to run two back to back trail races, with a whopping 29km, in two days, up hill and down dale, in winter, in the lake district, to raise funds to continue the farmhouse Sunday drop-in.
If you would like to support her (and us) please follow this link: https://smartgiving.org.uk/…/dirty-double-for-bridgend-farm…

This week BIG finalised details with the council for the license to use the building for the next year as we further            our vision for the site and continue to build momentum to own the building on a permanent basis. On Wednesday            we collected the keys and now have full access to the building and grounds until October 2015.

We will soon be announcing details of work and training days so if you would like to come and get hands on and              help us move forward with practical action then watch this space. More details announced very soon.

Funding

We have been awarded BIG Lottery Growing Community Asset Stage 1 support and development funding!! This is an enormous step forwards, and a move towards capital grant funding for the full renovation and running costs. We intend for this next stage of development work to start from June going forwards.

The Bid

In mid February, we submitted a bid to the council for the farmhouse before it closed for sale. We understand there was lots of interest, and our bid is still being considered alongside one other bidder. The final decision on this will be made at a council committee meeting by councillors on April 29th at 10:00am, to be ratified on May 5th. Obviously this is absolutely fundamental to the project. If anyone is able to offer any final support or help before then, or would like more information, please get in touch.
These meetings are open to the public with a small viewing area: If you are free and would like to come along to show your support on that day and view the decisions and discussions please get in contact asap - We can provide bus tickets, directions and meet with anyone nearby if people need.

Community Share Issue

We have had lots of interest and expressions of interest submitted for owning shares in Bridgend Farmhouse. This is fantastic and shows the strength of support people are willing to offer. It provides us with good potential financial backing for the project, and can only be strengthened by further shareholders showing expression of interest. Depending on the decision on the sale we will develop this further. Let us know if you'd like more info about this.

Community Development Worker

We were delighted to appoint Hilary Morrison, our first Community Development worker, at the start of March, thanks to funding from City of Edinburgh council, and the Lord Provost. She is a very experienced community development and arts worker, and has worked in and around the surrounding communities of Bridgend. She has hit the ground running and is already establishing lots of new groups and projects in healthy eating, walking, reminiscence, photography, bug hotels, and more.

Participatory Design Workshops

Darla Eno, who has been a student on placement with us from the University of Edinburgh has recently completed a report on the workshops she carried out last year with local groups and school kids around design ideas for the farmhouse. A film has been made about this and distributed to those involved, and was a really fantastic project. The project report and photos will soon be available on the publications tab on our website, you can view her film below. We wanted to thank Darla for her incredibly dedicated and impressive work.

Support

The last two months has seen some incredible displays of support from a breadth of different people and groups. We are very glad to have received the official support of Malcolm Fraser, Leader of the Scottish Government Town Centre Review team, MP Ian Murray, MSP Kenny Macaskill and MSP Alison Johnstone, amongst others.

Finally, if you have not yet and want to show your support by signing and sharing our online petition, you can do that here:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/bridgend-farmhouse-to-be-community-owned

Thanks to everyone for continued support, all the expressions of interest, and for all your help and involvement. We hope it will all be worth it. We will send out news on the decision as soon as we know more.

LATEST FILM RELEASE: The Bridgend Farmhouse has laid empty for 13 years. Over the last three years - alongside community groups, local residents and schools - Bridgend Inspiring Growth has been exploring the possibilities of bringing life back into the farmhouse. This film documents a recent part of the continuing envisioning process and the ever growing support for the project. Many thanks to the film makers Darla Eno and Sam Webb.
