Pride of Place - Faerie doors
During the summer of 2019, Bridgend participated in the Inch House Summer Fayre. During this event we had an information stall displaying leaflets and exhibiting works from some of our previous projects which we used to promote the Farmhouse and highlight our future programme of activities. It encouraged residents from the S.E. area to provide suggestions for future activities and events and strengthened links within the community surrounding the farmhouse.
At the event, two of our arts & craft workers held a session during which local children were invited to design Faerie Doors for a trail which has been sited amongst the trees within Craigmillar Castle Park. This trail will encourage children and their families to explore the Country Park, engage with nature and hopefully stimulate their imagination and promote creativity. While designing these doors, the children were encouraged to be as imaginative, colourful and creative as they wished.
The designs were then recreated in wood and painted by staff and volunteers at Bridgend Farmhouse and placed on the trail. There are 12 doors to look out for in total, all designed by talented local children.
The Faerie Doors, and other suitable trails through Craigmillar Castle Park, were promoted through Bridgend Farmhouse via guided walks through the park and with a map featuring detailing where to find each of the Faerie Doors, available online via our website and with printed versions being available at the farmhouse itself.

This project was supported by the City of Edinburgh Council Local Events Fund, and the dedication and commitment of a large team of local volunteers and artists.
(The title Pride of Place came about at the inception of this project when we needed a name to give to the funder's and it sums up how proud we are of the area we inhabit)
