Eric Fernandez-Baca - Our Food Support Worker
Eric Fernandez-Baca is a multiskilled worker with expertise in both cookery and media.
With over 15 years of working in the food industry and 10 years of experience in community development, Eric has worked in projects using food as an instrument for community development and is an experienced volunteer in community kitchens.
Through his professional career he has worked in a wide range of catering setups including restaurant work, community kitchens, and catering at large events such as The Royal Highland Show, The Scottish Game Fair and Blair Castle International Horse Trails.
Eric has supported vulnerable people in projects involving young offenders recovering from drug abuse, trained elderly people and people with learning difficulties to access the internet, and collaborated with several community projects on their media work.
For the past six months he has been working with projects that use food as a development tool such as our ‘Come and Dine Wi’ Us’ and Real Fast Food Projects.
His aim is to create a nurturing environment where the participants can come together to learn new skills, improve their self-confidence, and feel they are supported and valued.
As well as being a trained chef Eric is also a qualified sound engineer, with an honours degree in digital media and a master’s degree with distinction in Sound Design from the Glasgow School of Art. This experience allowed him to work as an audio post-production assistant in television projects such as How to Stay Safe (Channel 4), Music Map of Scotland (STV), Horizon documentaries (BBC) among others.
As well as being part of the Bridgend Farmhouse team Eric also continues his works as a Freelance Multimedia Producer.
