Khalid Bashir - Community Garden Coordinator and Sessions Facilitator
Originally from Sudan, Khalid moved to Edinburgh to do a master degree in Project Management at Heriot Watt University, after he had studied Engineering in Shanghai and worked there for some time. For several years he managed his own business in Edinburgh. However, since seriously growing his own fruits and vegetables, he has shifted his focus to sustainability and community engagement. Khalid has over nine years experience of working as a garden consultant and project coordinator for a number of community gardening projects in Edinburgh. In March 2023, Khalid received a Certificate of Merit from the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society in recognition of his highly regarded and significant contribution to horticulture and gardening in Scotland. Khalid has seen the transformation of Bridgend Farmhouse right from the beginning, at times as bystander and at times as volunteer. Khalid, who lives locally, has contributed to the developing and running of community groups since childhood and feels at ease to work with diverse groups, from children to pensioners. He greatly appreciates Bridgend Farmhouse as a place of bringing people together to learn and participate in change and development as well as celebrating jointly the yields of hard but rewarding work. One of the greatest rewards of his work, is witnessing, the impact nature, gardening and community spirit can have on the wellbeing of participants. |
