BIG Bike Workshop 2017
We are forming a small sub-group to take forward the development of the Bridgend Bike Workshop, which we expect will be a permanent feature in our new-build workshops that are nearing completion. If you are interested in joining this, please let us know
Background:
On the 3rd and 4th July BIG, in collaboration with Tim Le Breuilly ran a Dr. Bike Bicycle Maintenance Workshop, and a day of led rides from Bridgend Farmhouse as part of the UK wide Big Bike Revival project (more info below) They were two great days, helping people to fix up their bike, and enjoy local cycle routes and gathering new interest in the Bridgend Bike workshop, which we now want to build upon. |

Cycling UK’s Big Bike Revival to get people cycling for everyday journeys:
A national project encouraging thousands of people to cycle for every day journeys is coming to Bridgend Farmhouse. The Big Bike Revival, an award-winning programme developed by Cycling UK and funded by Transport Scotland, helps people in Scotland to bring their bikes back into use by providing bike health checks, sharing maintenance know how and giving people more confidence in the saddle. Partnered by 100 community groups and bicycle recycling centres across the country, the Big Bike Revival aims to reach thousands of people to encourage them to get cycling again and to replace short car journeys with the bike. In 2016, around 8,000 people participated across Scotland; this year events will run from 1 May to 11 June to encourage even more people to cycle for everyday trips. The Scottish Government has a vision to see 10% of every day journeys by cycle by 2020 and the Big Bike Revival will provide support and activities to encourage more people to get cycling to help achieve this vision. In 2016, Big Bike Revival activities in Scotland encouraged over 4,000 new trips by bike, of which 34% were previously car journeys and 2017 activities and events will build on this behaviour change outcome. |
