As Scotland comes out of Covid Lockdown, so does Bridgend Farmhouse.
Most of our "real life" activities had to come to a stop over the winter so we did our best with on-line classes in cooking, arts and crafts, singing and nature study and all of these continue.
We now have a route map out of Lockdown.
NOTE: this is still a work in progress, and subject to change, as we follow the government's Covid guidelines for keeping people safe.
As you can see in the graphic here some outdoor activities have already begun - bike maintenance, children's walks and our online activities.
More details of those here...
By the end of May we hope to begin more outside activities: our Sunday Drop-ins, bicycle tours, health walks and work on our Bothy and Mindfulness Garden. In July, we plan to have Wednesday Drop-ins and wall-pointing classes.
Gradually, you will see much more action at the farmhouse if all goes well with the fight against the Pandemic. So, let's enjoy our new freedoms and, please step forward to take part in our activities and come and join our volunteer force.
On April 23rd Edinburgh City Archives’ Redrawing Edinburgh event was Bridgend Past and Present, where John Nowak, a longstanding local Bridgend Farmhouse volunteer, explored the past and present of Bridgend. You can see it below or by using this link. https://fb.watch/56xZO4mxxb/
We suspended most onsite activities due to the Scottish Government Lockdown, we are now concentrating on getting our outdoor activities running again before usage of our buildings slowly starts.
The only exception to this is emergency bike repairs and maintenance for essential workers’ bikes. Please make an appointment for these needs via 07591 882 779 or ActiveTravel@bridgendfarmhouse.org.uk so we can keep the number of folk onsite at a time to a minimum.
For now we still have online Zoom sessions more details on getting involved with what we are doing here.
Our staff will mostly still be working from home, looking for ways in which we can help our community.

Our Wednesday afternoon Zoom drop-in Arts classes
Our Art & Crafts group run by tutor Gill Curran have recently developed into a collective embroidery project, working on what will eventually become a collection of highly appealing and colourful pieces, inspired by, and based on, the drawings of children. The aim is that the pieces will be mounted in our events room and displayed for an exhibition as soon as we are able. If you want to join in email firstname.lastname@example.org
The same group of avid sewing folk will also be working towards creating and embroidering a panel for the Craigmillar Tapestry project, in conjunction with the artist Andrew Crummy (who people may know of through the Great Tapestry of Scotland). This is a large-scale project with several panels already completed by local community groups in and around Craigmillar. Some of our exercise based activities have been able to restart outdoors:
Family Bike Rides where Leanne will guide you on mostly traffic free paths for approx 2 hours including lots of breaks. Rides leave from Bridgend Farmhouse 2pm every other Friday starting 16th April. Bikes and helmets can be included if you don't have your own. Rides are all around 8 miles and mostly flat so all levels of experience can join. Children need to be able to ride a bike, places are limited to 8.
