A summation of what has been done and what is planned, by Simon Hackin, the Bothy Build Manager
"Work on the Bothy has stopped and started all year. At first it was tools down again, then we could work without sharing tools, whilst keeping our physical distance and not more than four volunteers. Well that all seems like the distant past and we are back to full volunteering and a great deal has been done since last writing.
Perhaps our most significant work has been applying mud/clay to the internal walls of the straw bale. On many levels it has been an absorbing and enjoyable work. Much of the clay has come from the site at Bridgend, mixed with hemp shiv and sand. The mud walls have given the Bothy a very natural look, with delicate curved window reveals and a soft caramel colour. At the moment we are deciding on the colour for the clay paint, yellow and green are current favourites. Many hands have also been busy sealing the sub floor with airtight sealants and tape prior to filling with Thermo Floc insulation (paper based) and we also had a huge tidy up of the whole site just prior to a visit by funders and an increasing number of visitors. As always, we are keen to see new volunteers and old ones. Jobs are very varied and building experience isn't necessarily needed, though enthusiasm and commitment are probably the most valuable things that the Bothy volunteers bring to the Bothy. A great thanks to them all. We are nearly there.
